Stage and Televison Lighting Design, Camera Operator and Editor

Derek started his career in lighting in 1980.
After finishing his City & Guilds in Theatre Electrics, Derek worked in the West End of London as a lighting technician. Later joining the Royal Shakespeare Company in London, first as a dayman and later as a console operator working for many international lighting designers. During his time with the company Derek also did regional touring of the United Kingdom as a technician and lighting designer.
With a strong background in theatre; 4 years later Derek joined Vari*Lite Europe first as a technician and later as a programmer. This involved working in many disciplines such as concert touring, television and corporate events. Working for this new innovative company involved extensive world travel.
In the early 90s Derek became a freelance lighting designer/director working for many national and international artistes. His work has been interesting and varied working in concert touring, special events and television.
Derek also has experience as a camera operator and editor owning his own HD camera and editing software. Known as DigitalCarnage Derek has a full mobile video camera kit and editing suite, specialising in music, documentary and corporate events.
Derek speaks good conversational Spanish, is a keen photographer and sailor and divides his time between the United Kingdom and Spain.
